Become a Volunteer Firefighter for KFD in Erie, PA

The team at the Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for anyone interested in joining our ranks as a firefighter, EMS/Rescueman, fire police, administrative, financial and miscellaneous support, building and equipment maintenance and fundraising personnel. We welcome individuals with or without experience. All we require is a willingness to learn and an interest to serve your community here in Erie, PA.

Absolutely no obligation is required to explore the opportunities here at the Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Department. After applying, a representative from our fire department will contact you to schedule an informal interview. After a successful interview and state, federal and child abuse background checks, your application, your application will then be brought to the officers for consideration.

Following your application approval, you will be placed on a probationary status until you meet the following training requirements:

Firefighters

  • Completion of Pennsylvania Essentials of Firefighting Course
  • Completion of a Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician course
  • Pennsylvania Hazardous Materials “Operations” Level Course
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Courses 100, 200, 700 and 800

EMS/Rescueman

  • Completion of a Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician course
  • Pennsylvania Hazardous Materials “Operations” Level Course
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Courses 100, 200, 700 and 800

Junior Volunteer Firefighters

The Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Department also welcomes junior volunteer firefighters to join our team. As long as you're 17 or older, you are able to become a volunteer firefighter. If you have further questions about becoming a junior volunteer firefighter, contact our team.
